Twelve year old Teddy and his mom have just moved to Richland, Washington. In the past, Richland was the site of a nuclear power plant and they used to dump all of their waste in the river.

There’s an abandoned and broken down house by Teddy as well as a huge sycamore tree. Teddy goes looking for friends and meets several boys but he quickly discovers that these boys keep disappearing and no one knows who they were. Meanwhile, the tree seems to be getting into everything and everywhere and Teddy feels under attack.

I really thought the Dead Boys was a fun and creepy middle grade novel, perfect for this time of year! There’s a lot of suspense and a little bit of scariness as well as plenty of action and adventure. It is a bit of a fantasy and stretches what’s believable but that’s part of the fun of reading!

The Dead Boys is published Putnam and available in stores now. Thanks to the publicist for sending us a copy of this book.
