Once upon a time, a man named Barack Obama ran for president of the United States and he won! On the night of his victory, he made a very important announcement: When he and his family were settled in their new home in Washington, D.C., his daughters would get . . . A PUPPY!
On a farm in Texas, a puppy had been born. One of ten brothers and sisters, this puppy was lively and smart, but he needed a new home.
From a Texas farm to the White House, this is the real story of Bo—the First Pup!
My Review: My second graders love this book – it is a winner with them for two reasons: the puppy belongs in the White House AND they LOVE animals!  Here are some quotes from my class:
“The funny part was when the dog was running with Obama.”
“Obama’s wife looks so pretty and so do the girls.”
“It’s sad that Malia’s allergic to dog hair.”
“This book teaches people about American history.”
“It was funny when the dog was flying.”
“They made funny pictures of Obama.  The puppy is funny because he was running and taking Obama for a walk.”
“In the limo there was a dog.  I loved when Bo stuck his head out of the window.”
“The girls got books about puppies and could only choose one kind.”
“I love the book because of the cute puppy and he walks on the red carpet.  I think the book is for all ages.”
“I loved the book because of the illustrations.  It is a really colorful book.  The author is very creative.”
“I thought that when the little girls were smiling it was a little freaky.  But Obama’s face was funny.  It looked like the dog was wearing a tux.”
“It was kind of weird they had helicopters, red carpet, a limo, and a crowd of reporters there for the little dog.”
“Obama’s daughters saw the pup and petted him, and hugged him with joy.  He was so cute.”
This is a fun, informative book with great illustrations!  I will be excited to share it with my new class in the fall!
