Billy is fresh out of college with a degree in Philosophy when he gets a job at the Samuelson Company, one of the oldest and most important dictionary companies. His days start out rather dull, answering letters from the public about words and their usage, working on a supplement to the dictionary, and just generally understanding the way the company works and his job. Part of his job includes researching filed citations of word usage when responding to letters. One day while looking through the citations he comes across a strange one that seems to have been written from inside the company. He shares it with a coworker and the two of them start searching for more citations from the book, The Broken Teaglass, to discover the secret story.
I really didn’t know what to expect when I picked up this book. The cover was rather dull and the title wasn’t calling to me, but I’d heard some good things about it. I was almost immediately drawn into the the sharp writing, interesting setting and characters, and the mystery behind the citations. Everything about the characters and their situations felt so real. I was participating in a 25 Hour Readathon when I read this and I was completely gripped the whole time. To top it all off, there’s even some great humor.
I really recommend this book, but I’m afraid that the cover and title will turn people off from the charm inside!
There is some language in this book, so you should know!

I wondered about the cover too. It is appropriate for the book, but it just doesn’t catch your eye.
Thanks for the great review. Off to promote it now.

I’m not sure about the title either, but I’m going to read this book anyways due to YOUR review. I hope it is as good as you say it is!

Hmm, I wasn’t sure about the title or the cover, but I’ll make sure to give it a chance anyways. Thanks for the review!

I must be a real oddball – I like the title and the cover. I don’t know that either would be enough to convince me to read this, but your review did.
