We here at The Friendly Book Nook regret our lack of involvement in Book Blogger Appreciation Week. The truth is that Amy is too busy managing the BBAW blog to do much here, Sally just moved houses and is back to teaching school, and Leah’s got her three girls to chase after as well as a new semester underway at the school they work at.

So basically we’re just really busy.

But hopefully we’ll get back to normal soon! We do have a book we’d like to offer for giveaway!

The Justice Game by Randy Singer is a legal thriller and it is also Christian fiction but it is Christian fiction-light. Spiritual elements are present but not overwhelming. You can read Amy’s review if you’d like.

We’ll ship this one worldwide, but we’d like you to tell us what you think about gun control. That’s it! Make sure the email address you enter is valid and we’re good to go! We’ll keep this one open until Sunday.

…wow. That’s a heavy kind of a subject! I guess, since I live in New Zealand, my feelings on gun control are very different from a lot of Americans’ feelings on the matter. We only hear about the US in the media, and so much we hear just seems to show that wayyyyy too many people have access to guns there.

I don’t agree with people being able to own guns for self-defence – there’s too much potential for trouble there. It’s not like you can’t defend yourself without firearms – there are other ways to defend yourself. But gun control is such a complex issue, it’s hard to state a particular stance on it. Very complicated. Very difficult.

But essentially, I think gun control needs to be tightened.

    Thanks for the giveaway!

I don’t have a problem with guns when they are used for the proper purpose. If guns are in the home, they should be locked up and then bullets should be locked in a separate location. But then those who break the law with the use of guns need to be held accountable which seems to be a problem in our society.

I personally would have no issues with tighter gun control laws in the U.S. Most of the arguments I’ve heard in favor of rights to bear arms seem to me to be what incites more violence. There are many responsible gun owners; the problem is the irresponsible ones. And I think punishing them AFTER they’ve harmed innocent people is definitely NOT the answer. There are many countries with far lower violent crime rates involving guns. Can’t we look at what they do to ensure these lower rates of incident?

Giving everyone guns is not the answer and shouldn’t be the answer. Can’t we give them education instead?

  4. Julie H. Says:

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with making someone wait 24 hours to purchase something that can kill things.

  5. Linda Says:

I believe we have the right to bear arms, whether for fun, hunting, protection, etc. When it comes to semi-automatics or bigger guns, no, they don’t belong on the street except for good police officers.
And by the way, this is a great book to read. Well scripted and good story lines. You’ll enjoy it!

  6. Barbara S. Says:

Even though the constitution gives us the basic right to bear arms, it seems that the current literal interpretation of this amendment is beyond what our forefathers intended. With the long evolution in the need to bear arms, we no longer need guns to support our basic needs, Hunting for food was a necessity in the 1700′s as well as protection since there were limited police protection

This scenario doesn’t exist in the 21st century, Hunting for food is not a necessity and police protection is available. Therefore I believe that we need gun control legislation.

Yes it is true that guns don’t kill only people do. This is a weak argument at best. The values regarding respect for life and property seem to be limited in their scope. With a limited ability to control decision making, guns become the enforcer and people indiscriminately pull the triger.

I strongly and firmly believe that we need stronger gun control legislation.

Thanks for the opportunity to share some of my thoughts.

I believe in “the right to bear arms” and no that does not include semi automatics. If it can kill a roomful of people without reloading you know they’re not going bird hunting with it.

  8. Carole Says:

My family has never hunted and doesn’t even own a gun, so I’m not a strong supporter of weapons. I do believe there should be tighter control, more extensive background checks, and longer waiting periods.

I love Randy’s books and appreciate the chance to win a copy of The Justice Game.

I would love to win this book. I read lots of Christian fiction. As to gun control, I am against it. I am basically against government control of personal freedoms, whatever they may be.

I’m in favor of gun control. Too many lives are because there are guns in the home. I’m against hunting, too.

  11. Stacie Says:

I am in favour of gun control. However, I seriously doubt criminals will take the time to register their guns.

  12. Esme Says:

I am a firm believer in gun control-what do people need a gun for?

  13. Sharon Walling Says:

I personally do not like guns. I can understand a person wanting to have a gun in their home for safety reasons, but they need to also have them where children can’t get a hold of them. There have been some terrible accidents where children have gotten a hold of the gun. I also don’t feel that the general public should carry a gun on them at all times.
Police of course, general public no.

  14. Kelly Ann T. Says:

I’m not for gun control. I do believe in background checks and a waiting time, but the people have the right to bear arms. The first thing a dictator does is get rid of individual weapons. Hilter would have had a much tougher time if the Jewish people would have been armed to the teeth.

  15. Mystica Says:

Coming from a country where a war which went on for decades has just finished, I would say yes for gun control. Stringent regulations, more follow up, more control yes.

  16. Mary D Says:

Well, this is certainly a tough question LOL, while I personally do not own a gun nor advocate hunting in any fashion, I do believe people have the right to own firearms. I think a ‘cooling off’ period is basically a well intended restriction and has undoubtedly saved lives. But again, if someone is deadset to commit murder, they can just about grab up anything to do so besides a gun. It’s the intent not the item. I would say No to gun control because I think our lives are already regulated to death as is. Just my opinion.

  17. Paula Patterson Says:

I am in favor of gun control. I do think I need to get more info before making my final decision pro or con.

I’m in favor of gun control. Even if both people had a gun in a confrontation that does not mean that the ‘good guy’ would win or even have a better chance at winning. Plus there is the potential of accidents among family members or shooting a family member that comes into the house late at night without warning. I carry pepper spray and if I’m home alone make sure I have a cell phone on me at all times. I teach my daughter to be aware of her surroundings and keep her doors locked. A little common sense goes a long way.
