Bran Hambric video
From the back cover: In a bustling metropolis where magic is outlawed, a six-year -old child is found inside a locked bank vault. A scrap of paper reveals his name: Bran Hambric. The child remembers nothing of his life before the vault. Only magic could have done this. But why would any mage risk breaking the law to place a child in a bank vault?
Eight years later, the city of Dunce has forgotten about Bran. Even his foster parents don’t seem to know he exists. But there are those who have been watching, biding their time, waiting to strike, people who know where Bran came from and why he was sent away. And they will do anything to get Bran back dead or alive…
My Review: I am just about finished with this book and I am enjoying it! I don’t read very many middle grade books, but I was impressed with this book, especially since it was written by a young man who began writing it when he was 14. If you enjoy fantasy books, magic and tragic stories with a touch of humor, you will like this book. The characters were likable and interesting. There were a few twists and turns as well as suspense which kept me reading. There were some similarities with Harry Potter, but to me this was a good thing. Bran is an orphan, he lives with a very strange family, he has a great capacity for magic, and he is treated like the family servant. The interesting difference is that Bran was found in a locked vault when he was six years old and had absolutely no memory of his previous life. He discovers he has magical abilities and strong abilities at that. I am three-fourths finished with this book and am very curious about how it ends. I’m sure it will end with a question because this is the beginning of a series. Check out the video above to get a feel for what this great middle grade book has to offer!

I started following Kaleb Nation when he read the Twilight series from a guy’s perspective. He’s got a great sense of humor and is a great writer from what I’ve seen. I’m glad to hear that his book is good. He’s been so excited about it for several years now, as well he should be!
