With the release of the movie Marley & Me this past Christmas, we thought it would be fun to do a special little Marley & Me Giveaway!
Here’s what you’ll get if you win:
Plus the mass market edition of the original book! (the one with the movie cover.)
We’re going to have a little fun with this contest! To enter, please write a short story about your favorite pet that you’ve ever had. It should be at least five sentences long, but the longer the better. If you have a picture, go ahead and send that along too! Entries should be sent to thefriendlybooknookATgmailDOTcom. We’ll post our five favorite entries (assuming we get that many!) and then let you vote on the winner!
This contest will be open until Januaray 12th at midnight. I hope you’ll enter…I think we could use some animal love around here.

I represent the authors of the book, “We Thank You God For These: Blessings and Prayers for Family Pets,” Anthony Chiffolo and Rayner “Rusty” W. Hesse (Paulist Press, 2003). Rusty is an Episcopal priest and former chaplin to The Pet Cemetary in Hartsdale, NY, the final resting spots for hundreds of animals of all kinds and sizes, including the pets of several celebrities.
Since the release of “Marley & Me,” there has been renewed interest in the book and it is available for purchase online or, with an inscription from the authors, by contacting me at robs@robseitz.com.

it would have to be harvey the wonder dog he adopted me from the shelter. he was an epileptic but lived a long fruitful life and died on the eve of his 15th birthday. of all the “kids” i have had he was the softest most gentle kindest creature that ever walked the face of this earth

My dog Duffy was my best pet. Half Golden Lab, half Golden Retriever, sho drove me insane, and I loved her for 10 1/2 years. She was very similar to Marley, always into things and mischief. I miss her and never got another dog. I have had cats ever since. The heartbreak when they die is the same, but cats are easier since I had kids. My dog days will come again when the house is empty.

The best pet I’ve had was a black when I was a kid. He was the best dog I will ever have. When I was a kid there wasn’t leash laws so Frankie was free to wander around our street. He would always come home for dinner and to go to bed. Frankie would frequently come to my elementary school and wait outside my classroom for me. We only lived a block away.
One time we went to the grocery store down the street and Frankie was waiting on the hood of my mom’s lincoln continental, no she was not happy. He lived until he was twelve and died of cancer. I still to this day have his collar.

Difficult decision – the bird or the poodle? Since birdboy tends to bite when he doesn’t get his way, I’ll choose the poodle. She’s been with us since she was 2 and is now approximately 17. She’s tired now, but will still play. She’s been through 3 moves to different states, raising a teenager (and friends) a parrot who tries to play with her and yet she still loves us!

My favourite pet story would have to be about my Callicat. A beautiful 8 year old calico who ‘adopted’ me from my parent’s farm. I would play with all the farm kittens and she was one. One day while we were staying at the farm I awoke to a tapping at the window at 4:30am. I looked up and there was Calli outside the window. She had climbed the tree and weighted down the tree branch and scrambled onto the roof and then jumped up higher to the third floor. She greeted me every morning this way and when we left after 1 month she came to live with us. We have been best friends ever since!
