Ever heard that question before? Or rather, a million times before? Moms are always looking for ideas of things we can do with our children. The same old game of hide-and-seek or old maid gets tedious, our voices get worn out from reading out loud, and the children soon tire of coloring.

When my oldest daughter was about 3 years old, I found a couple of books by Trish Kuffner that have saved me many a rainy afternoon. And believe me, living in a tropical climate provides MANY rainy afternoons! Anyway, the books I am talking about are the The Toddler’s Busy Book (for ages 18 months – 3 years) and The Preschooler’s Busy Book for ages 3 – 6. Each book contains 365 ideas for games and activities you can do with your toddler or preschooler. Conveniently – one for everyday of the year. There is a broad range of activities including things to do in the kitchen, things to keep kids busy in the car, ideas using music and drama, games to play outside, and of course, arts and crafts. She also has a special section for unique ideas to help celebrate special days such as birthdays and holidays.

All of the activities and games use very easy to find materials – many are things you will find you already have. They are not materials that will cost a lot of money – a definite plus for me! If you find yourself out of ideas for how to answer that dreaded question – why not give these books a try? You are sure to find something to fill a long afternoon in a pleasant way. Enjoy!
