It’s the first day of school and Sarah is petrified! She doesn’t want to get out of bed, she claimed a headache, she went through all kinds of shenanigans in order not to go! The man in her life has a terrible time getting her up and ready for school. New students should identify with this story. The twist at the end made me laugh out loud!
The illustrations by Judy Love tremendously add to the story. They are bright, colorful, humorous, and have great detail.
I saw this book at the teachers’ store and grabbed it. It is delightful! I love having a great new book to begin the year with. I can’t wait to see the students’ response.

This is a great book! When I was teaching I would always read it to my kids on the first day of school.

I like books that cause us to snicker at real life situations.

Not knowing what your site was about and not thoroughly reading your post title, I jumped right into the content and totally thought you were talking about your little girl and her first day of school. I was nodding my head, totally relating and connecting with you. I sent my youngest off to all-day kindergarten this week and wrote a whole series of posts in one day because that seemed cheaper than therapy. Anyway… I laughed out loud when I realized this was a book and thought how wonderful it is when an author captures our exact sentiments. I need to check it out and read it to my son! Thanks for the review!
As for me, I am reading Kingsolver at the moment. Check out my latest review of The Poisonwood Bible in my post entitled “What’s on My Nightstand?”
