As a teacher, I find one of the areas hardest to teach is writing. I’d like to give some hints on how to help your child with writing in future posts. In the meantime, can you answer these questions?
1. Does your child have trouble viewing himself/herself as a writer?
2. Does your child have limited writing experiences?
3. Does your child fear negative feedback about his/her writing?
4. Is your child uncomfortable or unwilling to write?
5. Does your child view writing as a one-time event rather than a process?
6. Does your child have difficulty transferring what is in his/her head to paper?
7. Does your child procrastinate when it comes to writing assignments?
8. Does your child never seem to know what to write about?
If you answered YES to the majority of these questions, stay tuned for future posts. I will attempt to give you some concrete ideas on how to HELP!
